PRE-CAMP INSTRUCTIONS:

The Platte City Stake is scheduled to arrive at Naish Scout Reservation at 8:45 am on June 26th for the LDS 11 Year-old Camp.  PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THE ARRIVAL TIME, AS THIS HAS CHANGED!

Prior to camp, Scouts and leaders will need to be diligent in hydrating.  72 hours before arrival at camp, soda should be completely eliminated and members should begin drinking lots of water! Hydrating before camp is an essential part of preparation for the hike.  It is highly recommended that Scouts and leaders wear wool or wool blend socks on the hike. Other fabrics can bunch and cause blisters.  Please heed this counsel and BRING WOOL SOCKS.

Scouts and leaders should travel with Two-Deep Leadership to and from camp wearing their BSA Scout Field Uniform and will need to be in uniform for the opening flag ceremony.  Camp t-shirts will be distributed at camp during check-in and will be the acceptable attire for camp with the exception of Flag Ceremonies and Campfire (these activities require the uniform including Scout shirt, neckerchief, and slide.  PLEASE ENSURE YOUR ENTIRE UNIT IS ON-TIME (5 min. early) TO FLAG CEREMONIES.

Breakfast on Friday will NOT be provided.  Please make sure Scouts and leaders eat breakfast prior to their arrival at camp.

Scouts are encouraged to pack all their belongings in a backpack.  Plan to carry your camping gear from the parking lot.  Each Scout should have a small day pack for the hike to carry their lunch, water, compass, and first-aid kit.  SCOUTS NEED TO KNOW HOW TO USE THE COMPASS.  They will be given a map and compass on the hike and they will need to know how to use these tools to get to their next station.

Upon arrival, each Troop should send their top leader to the Central Camp Office (located near the health lodge) for CHECK-IN with the following information:  Roster, Proof of Youth Protection Training, and Proof of Payment.  Proof of payment is being mailed out this week to the primary contact listed on your reservation form.  Questions about payment should be directed to Laura Campbell via email at laura.campbell@scouting.org.

While top unit leaders check-in, additional leaders AND Scouts should report to the dining hall with their COMPLETED health forms.  The health forms include PART A (1 page) and Part B (2 pages) = 3 pages total, and must be accompanied by a photocopy of BOTH SIDES of the insurance card.   Health forms are required for Scouts and leaders attending all or part of camp.

Find Health Forms HERE.

If you have any Scouts needing the administration of any medications while at camp, you will need to include THIS FORM signed by a parent or legal guardian.

Stake leaders and camp staff will assist you as you are formed into patrols, directed to the campsite, and given the opportunity to watch the Scouts set up their tents.  PLEASE BE SURE THAT SCOUTS KNOW HOW TO FORM THE CLOVE HITCH!  This knot will be necessary in setting up their tents.  Leaders should allow the boys to set up these tents as it will meet a necessary requirement.  Scouts and leaders will be assigned to two person Scout tents (9 1/2' x 7 1/2') with platforms and canvas cots.

Each patrol will prepare a short skit at the Friday campfire.  You will want to bring ideas and/or materials for skits.  Patrols will choose their own totem, motto, and cheer. Patrols will also be expected to make assignments for KP (kitchen patrol).  The materials to develop patrol flags will be provided at camp.

Adult leaders will need to assist in obtaining an accurate head count during emergency drills. Please know the names of the boys in your ward/unit/patrol.

Lunch on Friday will be Meatloaf at the Dining Hall. Tin Foil Dinners will be prepared by Scouts for dinner Friday evening.  Ingredients, kettles, and charcoal will be provided. Ward leaders should bring heavy duty foil, long handled tongs, hot pads, seasonings, wet wipes, matches, and paper products.  Scouts and leaders should bring a mess kit (plate & fork) and be prepared to start a charcoal fire with kindling.  The use of liquid or gel fuels is prohibited. Breakfast on Saturday will be provided at the dining hall.  Sack lunches will be eaten on the hike.  Dinner is not provided on Saturday.

Closing ceremonies are scheduled to begin at 4:20 pm on Saturday, June 27th.  All patrols are expected to be in uniform at the flag mall by 4:15 pm.  It is expected that all units will participate in closing ceremonies and will not depart camp until dismissed.

Scouts are not allowed to bring electronics of any kind to camp.  Leaders should add Emily Burneson and Rebecca Cook to your cell phone contacts; our cell phone numbers are available on the stake directory.  Please feel free to share these numbers with parents who may need to contact someone at camp.

Leaders will want to come prepared to keep the Scouts engaged.  Ideas for songs, games, discussions, and activities will be useful in helping the Scouts to have a positive experience at camp.

Lastly,  Elder Ballard reminds us  that "Attitude is an important part of the foundation upon which we build a productive life...a good attitude produces good results."  DON'T FORGET TO PACK A GOOD ATTITUDE.

PLEASE CONTACT EMILY BURNESON OF THE STAKE PRIMARY PRESIDENCY WITH ANY QUESTIONS.

SEE YOU AT CAMP!
